We took the Rome Metro into the area of town where the Vatican is. It was very much like riding the TTC in Toronto and was easy to navigate albeit crowded. We did a walking tour once at our destination checking out the Castel Sant’Angelo before going off-grid and walking through some of the local neighbourhoods just discovering things.

We eventually ended up at the Vatican where the crowd at St. Peter’s Square was so bad it was dysfunctional. Our tickets for the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel only allowed us admittance at 3:30pm. The Vatican is so big that you need several days, not hours to explore it properly.

It was very crowded with tourists and we were feeling “herded” at times however all of our frustrations disappeared when we finally got to the Sistine Chapel. It is a magnificent place and simple words cannot describe its splendour. It would be easy to spend an entire day in there looking at all of the Frescos. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any pictures.

We concluded the day by having Apperitivo hour at our favourite local hangout - Ristorante Feelsgood. It is a small family-run restaurant that is a jewel. It was only our 2nd time there and they treated us like family already. We made reservations to go there again tomorrow night.

Tomorrow is our final full day in Rome. We have Hop On/Hop Off tickets and will visit the other big sites such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Forum etc, etc.
