We took the morning train from Florence to Rome. Unfortunately we experienced a delay at the crowded Florence station where walking is considered a contact sport. Once on the train, things changed as it was a comfortable ride into Rome. They even served us drinks and snacks at our seats.

Got to the notorious Rome Termini train station but it seemed almost calm after the crowded conditions we experienced in Florence. We are now in big bold beautiful Rome for the next 4 days.

Our balcony overlooks the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. (we have been blessed with some nice balcony views on this trip). We had never heard of this place but figured out it's importance after a bit of research.

We toured the church, it was beyond spectacular and free to get into. We then explored the immediate area around our hotel before partaking in our favourite Italian tradition - Aperitivo Hour!!

For the next couple of days we will be exploring the classic Rome landmarks such as the Colosseum, Forum, Vatican etc, etc. We are hoping to discover some more hidden gems like the Basilica that we toured today.
