Our last full day in Switzerland was spent in Zermatt. We have been in the country for a full week now and have loved it. Zermatt however is our least favourite location. We were expecting a serene ski town with no cars but it is busy, noisy and very chaotic here. There is a ton of construction going on, the skyline is blighted by huge cranes and helicopters spend all day long delivering supplies to the sites. Huge noisy construction vehicles also jam the streets of this "no car" town.
Despite this, the Matterhorn is majestic and we spent most of the day taking a cable car to the Matterhorn Glaciers which were at 13,000 feet. It was beautiful and peaceful in the mountains and the scenery was to die for. The French Ski team was getting in some early season slalom practice and shared the gondola ride down with us.
Tomorrow is a travel day to Milan which is going to take several trains and buses due to track construction in a couple of different locations. We are going to miss the people of Switzerland - they have been wonderful.
